The Teacher Development & International Partnership Department drives the professional growth of secondary school teachers across Nigeria while cultivating strategic partnerships with international organisations and foreign governments to enrich the country's education system. It designs and implements teacher professional development frameworks, certification programmes, and capacity-building initiatives that elevate instructional quality in senior secondary classrooms.

Through international collaboration, the Department facilitates exchange programmes, technical assistance, and knowledge transfer that position Nigeria's secondary education within the global education landscape.

Operations

Core Functions

Teacher Professional Development

Designs and delivers structured continuing professional development programmes for serving senior secondary school teachers, addressing content knowledge, pedagogy, and classroom management.

Teacher Certification & Licensing

Collaborates with the Teachers Registration Council of Nigeria (TRCN) and other regulatory bodies to support teacher certification, licensing, and professional standards compliance.

Curriculum-Aligned Training

Develops subject-specific training modules aligned with the approved senior secondary school curriculum, ensuring teachers are equipped to deliver content accurately and effectively.

International Partnership Management

Identifies, negotiates, and manages formal partnerships with foreign governments, international organisations, and bilateral agencies to advance Nigeria's senior secondary education agenda.

Exchange Programmes

Coordinates teacher and student exchange programmes with partner countries, facilitating cross-cultural learning and the adoption of innovative instructional approaches from global education systems.

Technical Assistance Coordination

Manages the deployment of international technical experts and advisors supporting NSSEC's teacher development, curriculum, and quality assurance initiatives.

Education Technology Integration

Promotes and supports the integration of digital tools, e-learning platforms, and education technology into teacher training and classroom instructional delivery.

Monitoring of Teacher Development Outcomes

Tracks the impact of teacher development interventions on classroom performance and student learning outcomes, using data to refine and improve programme design.
